1. The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas by Ursula K. LeGuin
Interesting utopia/dystopia story (yes, I would consider it both... kinda) about an apparently blissful society that thrives by means of a certain dark stipulation

2. Nine Hundred Grandmothers by R. A. Lafferty
Another sci-fi story, this one about a man determined to the meet the very oldest ancestor of a race that never dies

Pitifully behind in this challenge but I usually only read short stories when I'm reading a whole book of them at a time rather than individually-- as it so happens I haven't yet picked up an anthology or collection yet this year but I have a bunch of fantasy anthologies I'm going to read soon!

Thanks for joining in!

I've heard of both of those authors (LeGuin, obviously, but also Lafferty) and will have to see if I can find anthologies with those two stories in them.

Thanks for the links to those stories. I've saved them to read later as I'm a big fan of Ursula le Guin's. Not familiar with the other author but looking forward to reading the story.

I think Neil Gaiman has mentioned Lafferty as a favorite on his blog, so that's probably where I recognize the name from.

And that's where I got the link from! I had actually planned on buying his book of short stories of the same name and when Neil Gaiman posted the link I jumped on it to see if it was worth putting higher on the wish list :)

My computer is having issues with the Lafferty link, but the LeGuin link worked, so I should have my thoughts on that up tonight hopefully ...
