2010 Essay 8

I thought I'd add this one while the book is in front of me.

Essay 8: Introduction by, and Interview with, Alan Moore, from Impossible Territories: The Unofficial Companion to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier.  Technically, these are two different pieces, but the Introduction is so short I feel like I'm cheating if I include it as a separate essay.  In the Introduction, Moore again congratulates author Jess Nevins on his scholarship and talks a bit about how Moore and artist O'Neill feel like they can throw just about anything into the mix of their League books because Nevins will track down the source for the annotations; it allows them to have their fun without feeling like they're leaving the audience completely in the dark.  In the Interview, Nevins attempts to ask some solid questions about the way the latest volume was put together, but at some point the Interview derails into yet another rant by Moore about his poor treatment at the hands of DC Comics and his intense hate for the American comic book publishing industry.  And make no mistake: he WAS treated poorly.  But the conversation is getting old as the same issues are rehashed. Time to give up on it, in my opinion. Just don't ever work for DC again, Alan, and you'll be fine.
