a mixed bag this time

176. "Anacy an Ticks" (a folktale)- Louise Bennett. I love most anything Anacy related. This was no different.
177. " Slant-Eyed Americans- Toshio Mori.  Takes place on the day Pearl Harbour was bombed. A story from another angle.

Both of the above are from Concert of Voices: An Anthology of World Writing in English, ed. Victor J. Ramraj, Broadview Press, Canada, 1995.

Now for one from The Art of the Story: An International Anthology of Contemporary Short Stories, ed. Daniel Halpern, Penguin Books, New York, 1999.

178. "Pornography"- Ian McEwan. Yes, the Atonement dude. Dripping with disease.
And finally I picked up a copy of The New Yorker, December 22&29, 2008 issue (which happens to be the fiction issue)

179. "A Manhattan State of Mind"- Donald Antrim. I had never heard of this writer so excuse my ignorance should he be a known entity in the world of fiction. I enjoyed the story of a man one the verge of relapse and a wife at the end of her rope. I am sure this is a story that people of this area of Manhattan could picture with little problem in terms of location. I am not sure the story could have ended any differently and sadly I knew that early on.

Will I get to 180 before the end of the year? Who knows. It still won't get me to even half way mark of the challenge. It has been fun.

I have that winter fiction issue of The New Yorker with me for my holiday travels, but haven't managed to open it yet.

And I have two anthologies worth of stories to pop in here, that I read weeks ago.

#177 sounds interesting, too.
