So I final opened The Penguin Book of Canadian Short Stories.

The following stories fell out:

123. "This All Happened"- Michael Winter
In sequences numbered 1-31 (perhaps indicative of a month?) the story is told. I didn't get it. If there was anything to get.
124. "On Fire"- Isabel Huggan
Two couples go to the lake for a ritual weekend at the end of summer. One woman barren the other with two young kids. Relationships go into the darkness of lack and are eventually altered. The reader is left wondering when it will finally happen.
125. "The Flesh Collectors"- Michael Redhill
A man and his journey to vasectomy. This guy has had a tough life. His faith has not made it easy for him. Organized religion and its strict guidelines knows not of exceptions to the rule.
126. "Nadir" - Gayla Reid
The way war destroys families, changes the dynamic decades later. A long after the war in Vietnam type stories.
127. "One Down"- Dionne Brand
You have seen Brand on my list before. This is a story of a woman who no longer would be pushed to the "back of the bus" and how that experience shaped how the narrator read the her face in an old photograph. A family tree kind of find.
128. "The Friend"- Elizabeth Hay
A way a relationship can poison us until we are able to extract ourselves, and then some. Hay is becoming a prominent and prolific novelist of late.

Several of these sound interesting.

Glad you've been reading -- novels are cool too! *grin*
