Number 35 from "The Engineer of Human Souls" -Josef Skvorecky. The story about Pym, a professor and a student in the midst of a plagarism issue. It is the professor's weakness that is interesting. I don't know what more to say. It is from Other Solitudes

Number 36-"The View from Castle Rock"- Alice Munro is the person behind the pen. I get the impression this a section of a longer short story (don't you love that description). It is about a boy from Scotland and the future of going to "America" (read North America). It is about family or a splinter of it. It is well written and I was pulled into the story with great ease. The passages that tell of life on board a ship and the birth of the daughter during the roughest seas seemed the most dramatic. Atmosphere no matter the locale or activity is well painted with her skills as a wordsmith.

Announcement: Number 36 comes from my birthday present. The Penguin Book of Canadian Short Stories - Selected & Introduced by Jane Urquhart. 2007.

I've seen that Alice Munro story mentioned elsewhere, but can't recall where. I need to track that one down. I saw the Canadian Book of Short Stories in the bookstore I visited last week when I was near Toronto and didn't buy it ... perhaps I should have!
