2016 Story 14

Today's story comes from One Teen Story magazine, Volume IV Issue IV (published December 18, 2015)

14. LONESOME by Tarah Scalzo.   I'll admit, the beginning of this story didn't grab me; something about the voice of the main character, Call Greene threw me off.  I felt like perhaps she was a bit of an unreliable narrator, that right away there were things she was not telling her audience. After the first two pages, I grew accustomed to Call's way of telling her story and enjoyed being along for the ride. This is a very slice-of-life story; nothing shocking happens and yet it feels complete and satisfying at the end. I think author Scalzo does capture the vocal cadences of an uprooted, insecure upper midwest teenager looking for a new anchor for her life.
