2015 Story 303

Today’s story comes from the audiobook Metatropolis: Green Space, the final volume in the series, edited by Jay Lake:

303. FOREST OF MEMORY by Mary Robinette Kowal.   Katya deals in antiquities, trading on nostalgia for a past long (and not-so-long) gone. But the world is a tricky place these days, and a chance encounter with a stranger calling himself “Johnny” could be real or could be something else entirely. Kowal’s first person narration, especially in the hands of reader Allyson Johnson, sparks and shines. What really happened, and how can Katya prove it when there’s no video or audio proof of what she says happened? The tension in this story is palpable and easily related-to: we’ve all been in that situation of telling a story to someone who wasn’t there to see it first hand.
