2015 Story 302

Today’s story comes from the audiobook Metatropolis: Green Space, the final volume in the series, edited by Jay Lake:

302. TENSEGRITY by Tobias S. Buckell.  Buckell brings Reg Stratton, the protagonist of his two previous Metatropolis stories, back for one more go-around. Not a direct sequel to the other stories so much, so the reader doesn’t really need to know all the details of Reg’s previous life in order to enjoy this murder mystery. Years ago (between stories), Reg helped create and launch the floating city of Skyholme – and now the city itself is accused of murdering a natural ecological system, and Reg must find out the truth before the city is completely destroyed. Buckell follows all the rules of a good noir murder mystery: a variety of possible suspects, a jaded investigator with a dangerous past, a deadline for solving the case, and the clues all fairly dropped in for the reader to recognize once the truth is revealed.
