2015 Stories 298: Rock of Ages

Today’s story comes from the audiobook Metatropolis: Green Space, the final volume in the series, edited by Jay Lake:

298. ROCK OF AGES by Jay Lake.  Bashar finally takes center stage in this story after being a supporting character in Lake’s tales in the first two Metatropolis anthologies. His latest visit to the J. Appleseed Foundation, which he helped found after the destruction of Cascadiopolis, finally unearths the conspiracy hinted at in previous stories, with potentially devastating effect on Bashar and his family. The story also incorporates elements from other authors’ stories, particularly Karl Schroeder’s concept that natural systems gain political personhood, and the ability to communicate with humans, in the future. This is a very tense, action-oriented story; the final act is nail-biting.
