2014 Story 80

From Fierce Family, edited by Bart R. Leib, published by Crossed Genres:

80. FORM B: FOR CIRCUMSTANCES NOT COVERED IN PREVIOUS SECTIONS  By Stephanie Lai     "Form B" is one of the darker stories in Fierce Family, although it is not completely without a sense of hope and a strong evocation of home. It's also one of the few (perhaps the only) piece of post-apocalyptic fiction, taking place in Australia after a shift in the Earth that has increased the intensity and damage of the sun's rays.  The bulk of the story is a road trip that put me in mind of Cormac McCarthy's The Road minus the feeling of senselessness to the journey.  The first two pages, while they set the tone of main character Edith's life, felt a little disjointed and perhaps a little superfluous, but once Edith begins her quest, I was caught up in the story.
